European telecoms move to sell radio towers: some carriers don't see them as core business and want to cut costs

Wind Telecomunicazioni S.p.A. and 3 Italia have agreed to sell the two firms' combined towers units, a deal that could garner 2 bil euro, or $2.72 bil. German firm Deutsche Telekom AG also plans to sell its tower-broadcasting business unit T-Systems, which could bring about 1 bil euro. All three companies have cited cost reductions as a primary reason for the sales.
