FRANCE: AUCHAN'S INTERNAL COMMUNICATION
Article Abstract:
The Auchan group has chosen the Internet for its internal communication. Planet Auchan is the name of this communication tool which already has forty Intranets, each representing a different Auchan business. They connect the 52,000 working in the company, which enables Auchan to move more quickly. Although at present Planet Auchan is limited to French territory, it will ultimately be developed worldwide.

FRANCE: AUCHAN TESTS SELF-SCANNING
Article Abstract:
The Auchan retail group has tested a Rapid Auchan self-scanning system in its store at Issy-les-Moulineaux since 27 February 2000. This store was chosen mainly because the waiting time in check-out lines could ready 20 minutes on days with heavy attendance. Auchan invested FFr 7mn in new check out lines which consist of two units of two regular check stands, ten checkout stands for less than 10 articles and two Rapid'Auchan checkout stands. This system is only for Accord cardholders. In two months, 35% of the store's 8,000 cardholder customers used the self-scanning system, 676 customers acquired the card in order to be able to use the system and its penetration rate reached nearly 10%. The experiment will last for one year, during which tests and measurements will be carried out before extending the system. Many other experiments did not get beyond the testing stage because of the cost of setting it up, of training cash register personnel, of a few errors possible in codifying products, and the rise in the unknown mark down rates.
