FRANCE: ETAM'S NEW CHALLENGES
Article Abstract:
Etam, the French clothing retailer, remained in the black in 1998 although its net results dropped by 50% thanks to the contribution of Etam Plc, its loss-making UK arm. In 1999, Etam will rationalise its lines. The Etam lines references will be cut by 20% allowing a drop in purchasing expenses. Etam will continue to promote its lingerie line under the Etam brand, a test being under way in the UK. The chain will continue to open new outlets with a 500 square metre new concept to be opened in Brussels. The WMK chain is expected to open three new outlets to total 10 stores in 1999. Overseas expansion is still on the agenda with an opening in Italy for 1999.
