FRANCE: MARIONNAUD'S AMBITIONS
Article Abstract:
Thanks to recent acquisitions, Marionnaud has become the second fragrances and cosmetics retailer in France. The chain, which controls 185 outlets, posted a FFr 954.10mn (taxes excluded) turnover in 1998 - a 24.3% increase from 1997. Marionnaud is still looking at possible acquisitions and Marcel Frydman, the company's CEO, has 200 potential acquisitions in his files. His aim is to double the number of outlets and turnover by 2002 or 2003. Marionnaud wants to develop in Brittany and in the East of France where the chain has very few outlets. In 1999, Marionnaud expects to post a FFr 1.75bn consolidated turnover. International expansion may be the next step but Marcel Frydman declares he is not 'obsessed' with international development. However, talks are under way but nothing is likely to happen in the very short term, Frydman says.
