FRANCE: OLITEC PRESENTS WIRELESS MODEM
Article Abstract:
Olitec's new wireless modem, the WaveMemory, retails at FFr 1,650 not including taxes. The 56-KBPS modem, the only wireless machine in its category today, implements the DECT technology and offers a 50-metre range within a building. While offering the same facilities as the Self Memory modem, the WaveMemory's communication software offers an improved tool bar so as to ensure a better access to all applications (Internet, e-mail, fax, directory, etc.). Already available in PC (Windows or Linux) version, it will soon come for Macintoshes too. The equipment comes in two separate elements. While the base element is connected to the telephone socket, the modem itself is connected to the computer's serial port.

FRANCE: SALES OF MODEMS IN 1999
Article Abstract:
According to the GfK cabinet, sales by value of modems in France fell 22% over 1998, at FFr 312mn in 1999, mainly because modems are more and more included as a standard equipment with computers. Other reasons include the introduction of modem and Internet packages, a large offer in basic models (modems under FFr 700 contribute almost 50% of total sales), and the lack of a major technical shift in modems. The average price of a modem reached FFr 800 in 1999, down 8.5% from 1,026 in 1998. Sales by volume were down 8.5% too, with 389,000 units sold in France in 1999.

FRANCE: OLITEC, 3COM CORNER THE MODEM MARKET
Article Abstract:

Olitec and 3com US Robotics corner 40% and 37% of this market in France, respectively. Though two out of three PCs now include a modem, the GfK
