FRANCE/WORLD: THE AIMS OF CARREFOUR-STOC
Article Abstract:
Carrefour and Comptoirs Modernes are increasing their joint activities both in France and abroad, notably with the creation of communal hubs in Brazil and Poland, joint negotiations for national brands and the establishment of communal goods selections (100% of Carrefour food and drink brands will be available at Stoc). Carrefour and Comptoirs Modernes envisage opening 50 Marche Plus and 12 Stoc outlets in France in 1999. Outside France, they foresee the opening of 13 units in Spain and 5 outlets in Poland . Thanks to the integration of Comptoirs Modernes, Carrefour's turnover is predicted at FFr 220bn for 1999, 25% higher than in 1998. For its part, Carrefour foresees the opening of 40 hypermarkets outside France in 1999: 11 in Europe, 20 in Asia and approximately 10 in America. Other openings are planned for the year 2000 in Slovakia, Greece, Hungary, Switzerland and Japan.
