Nomura was scandalized in 1991 when improprieties were caught, and the company was supposed to cease such practices. The securities firm announced on Mar 6, 1997, that two managers had paid firms related to gangsters for not challenging issues at annual meetings. Little information is available.

Daiwa Securities, Nikko Securities, Yamaichi Securities and Nomura have been rocked by scandals in recent years due to corrupt practices of executives. All four companies may have to suspend their activities, which will allow foreign-owned competitors to gain business.
