The UK fast food market is lead by hamburger chain McDonald's, which increased its share of the value market to 35.9% in 1997 with Burger King accounting for 15.3% of sales. The burger market is dominated by McDonald's, which increased is value share to 51.8% in 1997 from 49% in 1996. The burger market accounted for 74.5% of fast food advertising in 1996, with the pizza sector accounting for 10.4% and the chicken fast food market accounting for 13.6% in 1996. McDonald's spends almost 30 million pound sterling per year on advertising.
