Fight for water companies
Article Abstract:
Prazske VAK (PVAK) (Prague, Czech Republic), water company, will be privatised in 2000. The National Property Fund of the Czech Republic should declare a tender for the sale of a 66% stake in PVAK in the middle of 2000. The nominal price of the package of shares is about 522 mil Kc but the market price could be about 2 bil Kc. The property is lucrative in spite of the fact that PVAK's infrastructure is neglected and needs high investments. The three foreign water groups Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux (SLDE) (France), Vivendi (France) and Anglian Water (AW) (UK), which hold important stakes in Czech water firms, will bid for the stake in PVAK. SLDE, which is represented by Lyonnaise CR (Czech Republic) in the Czech Republic, saw a turnover of 4.1 bil Kc in 1999. SLDE has a 20% share on the Czech water supply market. Vivendi, which operates through Vivendi Water (France) in the water sector, saw a turnover of 3.648 bil Kc in 1999. The firm supplies water to 1.8 mil inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It has a 25% share on the Czech market. AW supplies water to about 1.1 mil inhabitants in the Czech Republic.
