A case decided by the Technology and Construction Court in 2000 is surveyed. Issues highlighted from the case surveyed include liability for fire damage to a new building, clause 22A of JCT 80, contractors and architects liability.

The Technology and Construction Court's ruling in Payne v Setchell found that a building designer is not liable in negligence to the client, or to a subsequent purchaser, for the cost of fixing a flaw in the design that the designer has produced.
