Ford beats expectations with second-quarter net

Ford Motor Co. posted strong earnings for the second-quarter of 1999. The car maker's earnings went beyond what analysts had predicted. Ford's results were helped to a rapidly-growing market in North America that compensated for the sluggishness of the European and South American markets. Ford Motor posted $2.34 billion (2.30 billion euros) in net income for the quarter. The company posted record earnings of $2.48 million.
