Article Abstract:
The Castel group, the leading French wine trader, which holds more than half of the French spring water market of a turnover of FFr 2.5bn, is said to have acquired the Papillaud spring water group (Roxane, Cristal Roc, Grands Bois) and is also said to have signed a technical and financial partnership with CFN/CFBG for Genest water. Moreover, Castel may takeover the LBO Finances' stake in the CFN, a holding company for spring water and private label colas. In addition, Castel is said to have purchased the wine operations form the Caves de Saint-Arnould, based in the north of France, from the Dutch group Heineken. Heineken has retained the beer operations with the Brasserie de Saint-Omer. Heineken bottles 500,000 hectolitres of wine per year, of which half is table wine and half is AOC wine.
