France stops Coca-cola deal for Orangina
Article Abstract:
Coca-Cola Co.'s plan to acquire French soft-drink company Orangina from Pernod-Richard SA was turned down by the French government. The proposed five billion French-franc ($880 million) purchase was rejected following recommendation of French antitrust authorities that the deal would potentially limit competition in the carbonated soft-drink market. Although Coca-Cola officials expressed disappointment over the decision, they remain optimistic that the deal will eventually be completed. According to a Coca-Cola spokesman in Atlanta, GA, the softdrinks giant is considering its options, including review of the terms outlined by the French government for the deal to be approved.
