Free at last, to die: Russia
Article Abstract:
Russia's death rate increased 45% from 1989 to 1994, and the life expectancy for men fell from 65 years to 58 years. Some observers attributed the decline to phony statistics by the former Soviet regime, but a new research study validates the figures. Drinking and poor health care are some of the causes.
