French blows its horn

The Nov 1997 meeting of 'la Francophonie' in Hanoi, Vietnam, underscored the city's links to France through language, although only a small percentage of the population still speaks French. The link, with countries such as Canada and Switzerland, is not only through language, but also through culture.

Horn's dilemma: Hungary

Horn's coalition government, which came to power in Jul 1994, passed a new budget, but has not accomplished many of its other goals such as increased privatization. Horn has failed to appoint a new governor of the central bank and fired privatization minister Ferenc Bartha.

Dying, and toying with maps: the Horn of Africa
Article Abstract:
Civil war is destroying the countries in the Horn of Africa. Somaliland wants independence from Somalia, Eritrea wants independence from Ethiopia, and the southern part of the Sudan wants to secede as well. War exacerbates the famine and poverty in those countries.
