French deal to consolidate European defense electronics industry
Article Abstract:
Thomson-CSF is scheduled to finalize the implementation of a cooperation agreement with Aerospatiale, Alcatel Alsthom, and Dassault Industries, in June 1998, a move that will significantly strengthen the company's position as a defense electronics and space contractor. Under the agreement, majority of Thomson-CSF capital, 53.1%, to private investors, reducing the share owned by the French government at the firm to 46.9%. The deal also gives Thomson-CSF Dassault Electronique, which has expertise in electronic warfare, airborne radar, among others, and Alcatel Alsthom's defense and government electronics activities inside and outside of France.

Bofors BAMSE grows sea legs for Visby corvette
Article Abstract:
Bofors Missiles submitted to the FMV, the defense material administration of Sweden, its proposals for the installation into the Swedish Navy's new Visby-class stealth corvettes of its BAMSE air-defense missile system. Bofors Missiles' proposals were submitted as a response to the FMV's Request for Information, which is the initial phase of its planned purchase of an air-defense system for naval applications. The FMV plans to have its second Visby-class vessel batch and possibly its Coastal Artillery's land-based air defense units with the missile-based air-defense system, a first for the Navy of Sweden.

Giraffe radars will be air-defense C2 centers for Swedish armed forces
Article Abstract:
Ericsson Microwave Electronics in Jun 2000 received two contracts from Sweden's Defense Materiel Administration valued at $60 million and $12 million. Under the contracts, the company will build eight Giraffe Agile Multi-Beam (AMB) 3D air defense radars and six ArtE 740 Giraffe surveillance and fire-control radars for the Swedish armed forces. The Giraffe AMBs and the ArtE 740 radar antennas will be delivered in 2003 and late 2002, respectively.
