Fujimori backtracks again on privatizations
Article Abstract:
Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori has again slowed the country's privatization progress. His actions include halting some deals that had been scheduled for 1999. For example, Fujimori announced in late March that electricity distribution companies ElectroSur, Electro Su Oeste, Electro Sur Este would, for the moment, not be offered. It appears that political expediency has become the only factor determining which state-owned enterprises are auctioned.
