Some of the largest mutual funds companies are investing heavily in managed futures and options, claiming there is little risk and healthy returns. Commodity trading advisors are champions of futures investment, but industry observers feel their performance could weaken.

Fidelity changes tack
Article Abstract:
Fidelity Investment Inc has consistently outperformed its competition in the mutual fund industry since Peter Lynch began managing its Magellan equity fund in 1977. Fidelity will be hard pressed to sustain the same performance now that Lynch has left.

Fidelity's fallen star
Article Abstract:
Vinik is leaving to start his own fund in the wake of controversy over the manner in which he managed the biggest mutual fund in the US. Vinik invested too much in bonds and cash during a stock market boom, causing the fund to lose money.
