GE unit to buy Elscint imaging divisions
Article Abstract:
Elscint Ltd.'s nuclear- and magnetic-resonance and medical-imaging businesses will be acquired by the GE Medical Systems division of General Electric Co. to expand the unit's product lines as well as reinforce its worldwide distribution network. The operations of Haifa, Israel-based Elscint to be purchased by GE Medical Systems are in the US, Israel and the United Kingdom. GE reported that it will continue Elscint's 1997 joint venture with Elgems for the design and manufacture of nuclear-imaging products.

Elbit Systems Ltd. begins merger talks with El-Op
Article Abstract:
Elbit Systems Ltd. announced that it was engaged in merger negotiations with El-Op Electro-Optics Industries Ltd. If the proposed merger is agreed on, then Elbit will give El-Op's stockholders shares in Elbit. The financial terms of the proposed deal were not revealed. Elbit upgrades planes, helicopters, and armored vehicles. El-Op is the largest electro-optics systems house in Israel for ground, naval, and airborne applications.
