GM, Ford step up efforts to reduce costs in Europe

Responding to losses in their European markets, General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., are seeking ways to reduce production costs. General Motors' German subsidiary Opel AG is negotiating with workers to extend work hours without increasing wages. Ford's Jaguar PLC plans to cut production in the U.K. by an estimated 12%.
