Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd has been the largest exporter of cement and clinker for the last 5 years, during which it exported 21 lakh tonnes. It has three dedicated terminals and a fleet of special ships to transport bulk cement from its plants in Gujarat to the coastal markets and for exports. The jetty at the Gujarat plants is capable of berthing international vessels of 40,000 dead weight tonnes. The company produces 3 million tonnes of cement from its units in Western India and another 4 million tonnes each from its units in Northern and Eastern India. (khr)

GUJARAT AMBUJA TO ACQUIRE DLF CEMENT
Article Abstract:
Gujarat Ambuja Cement (GAC) is likely to acquire DLF Cement (DLFC) for Rs150-Rs185 crore. DLFC's plant at Rajasthan has a capacity of 1.4 million tonnes per annum (tpa). The acquisition will increase GAC's capacity from 5 million tpa to 6.4 million tpa. GAC's plants are located at Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh. GAC has appointed Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services as consultant for evaluating the proposals. GAC had earlier acquired Modi Cements for Rs166 crore. (rk)

GUJARAT AMBUJA PLANS TO DOUBLE CAPACITY IN 5 YRS

Gujarat Ambuja Cements Ltd (GACL) is planning to invest Rs1,500 crore on increasing its capacity from 6.5 million tonnes per annum (tpa) to 13 million tonnes tpa in the next five years. The capacity doubling will be through acquisitions and greenfield projects. It plans to avail a debt of Rs750 crore. It will add Rs750 crore from internal accruals towards capacity enhancement. GACL sells 75 percent of its production in the states of Gujarat, Punjab and Mumbai. (rk)
