Gazprom pipeline plan may fuel worry: pact with Italy's Eni might boost influence over EU energy supply

Russia's OAO Gazprom and Italian petroleum firm Eni S.p.A. have entered into a 50-50 joint venture to construct a 558-mile gas pipeline stretching from Russia to Europe via the Black Sea. The pipeline's annual capacity could be as high as 1.05 trillion cubic feet of gas. Construction is expected to take three years and begin next year.
