Much done, more to come
Article Abstract:
Consolidation of the global telecommunications market is expected to drive the European sector into a flurry of mergers and acquisitions activity during 2000. The initial transaction which started the market rolling was the $62 billion takeover of US-based AirTouch Communications by UK-based Vodafone Group during the early part of 1999. Vodafone began a hostile takeover bid for German telecommunication's firm Mannesmann in December 1999, suggesting a further round of activity throughout Europe.
