Good fences
Article Abstract:
Borders appear to be disappearing in some parts of the world, yet they reappear elsewhere. The end of the Soviet Union meant that new borders were erected which separated economic and time zones. Religions tend to oppose borders, and economic forces tend to undermine them. National sovereignty is being ceded to supranational bodies. Meanwhile, separatist movements exist in a number of countries such as Canada. There are arguments that nation states are becoming less relevant, yet people take them seriously and they affect economic behavior.

Article Abstract:
A hologram is being used at the Detroit Motor Show to depict the P2000 from Ford. This hologram involves new technology allowing for larger holograms and reducing distortions while improving color accuracy. Zebra Imaging's Michael Klug and colleagues have developed this technology, and are using it at the Detroit Motor Show for publicity. The new process can help designers to speed production since there will be less need to use clay models to inspect what they are designing.

On the borderline
Article Abstract:
