The fall 1992 conference of the UK's Liberal Democrats in Harrogate was dominated by the party's testy relationship with Britain's main opposition group, the Labour Party. Several Labour members of parliament spoke at the meeting, but the parties could not agree to cooperate in future elections.

The passing of power
Article Abstract:
The UK government is supposed to change hands suddenly, without a long transition, but the expected defeat of the Conservative Party belies this notion. Legislators are merely waiting for the change, the Tories are acting like opposition and the public listens to Labour proclamations.

The Labour Party is divided on the subject of electoral reform. Changing to a system of proportional representation would hurt many politicians and could have an unpredictable effect on the makeup of Parliament. Both sides of the issue are discussed.
