Goodyear's Sharp to head North American tire unit

Fifty-seven year-old William J. Sharp has been appointed as the new president of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s North American tire unit. The appointment is part of the company's reform of its management structure. Goodyear will have a president over each of its seven business divisions under the new structure. The company asserted that the new structure would facilitate the integration of new acquisitions and joint ventures.

Newell Rubbermaid cuts profit outlook for quarter again

Newell Rubbermaid Inc. lowered its earnings forecast for the 2001 second-quarter for the second time due to lower sales and increased costs. The company expects to post 29 cents (34 European cents) per share in earnings for the period, compared to the previously-expected 37 cents per share.
