Greece re-tenders 51% Ionian Bank
Article Abstract:
The state-controlled Commercial Bank of Greece has appointed US firm JP Morgan as sale adviser and called a new international tender for its planned sale of a 51 percent tender in Ionian Bank. The first phase concludes with the deadline for submission of non-binding bids on Feb 8, 1999; the second phase will be held among participants in the first phase and will include submission of binding bids with a minimum 30 percent stake. EFG Eurobank/Ergobank/Deutche Bank, Piraeus bank/Xiosbank and Alpha Credit Bank are widely expected to fight over Ionian, which owns 222 branches in Greece and two abroad along with many subsidiary operations.
