HLL'S LEMON UNDER MRTPC WHEEL
Article Abstract:
The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission (MRTPC) has initiated an investigation against the Wheel detergent of Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL). MRTPC will check if the detergent's widely advertised lemon power actually exists and if it contains lemon. The detergent manufacturer, Fena had filed a complaint against HLL to MRTPC. It has submitted reports from major laboratories proving that there is no lemon in Wheel detergent and cakes. HLL had earlier filed a complaints against Fena to Doordarshan and to the Advertising Standards Council of India stating that Fena's advertising campaign attacks the lemon cleaning power of its Wheel brand and is against advertising codes. Subsequently, Doordarshan had banned Fena advertisements on its main channel. The ban has since been suspended. (nr)

MRTPC BACKS PAY CHANNELS
Article Abstract:
The Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission's (MRTPC) interim order has backed pay channels, while passing its interim order. The order has defended linking of charges on cable operators to subscriber base. The order passed by MRTPC is likely to have impact on both cable and satellite industry. Hinduja's cable network, IndusInd Media Communications, has petitioned saying that Zee has imposed a pay system wherein IndusInd has to make payments to Zee Cinema based on the number of subscribers. Hinduja cable netwok has sought renewal of the old rates charged by Zee Cinema prior to the deactivation of the decoders. (gs)
