HOT ROLLED COIL IMPORTS TO ATTRACT ANTI-DUMPING DUTY
Article Abstract:
Consequent to demands from major players in the steel industry - Steel Authority of India Ltd, Essar and Tata Iron & Steel Company Ltd - the Director-General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties has come down heavily on imports of hot rolled coils (HRC) from the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) nations. All three steel giants recorded a fall in profit. Current prices of HRC from CIS are $160-$190 FOB and $200 FOB from Europe. This makes a landed price of around Rs11,000 per tonne with domestic prices ruling at Rs13,500 a tonne. A floor price of Rs14,300 per tonne for HRC, Rs15,000 per tonne for hot rolled strips, sheets and plates and Rs22,000 per tonne for boiler quality plates has been fixed. The duty would be the difference between the landed price and the floor price. Kazakhstan is the only CIS nation to be exempted from the duty. (nr)
