HP TO CHANGE IMAGE, MARKETING STRATEGY
Article Abstract:
Hewlett-Packard India (HPI) has planned to change its brand image from that of a product company to being a consumer company. It will also restructure its marketing strategy to tap the increasing consumer segment in the country. This decision is a result of the threat posed by the strong brand equity of its new competitors - Xerox and Canon - in the printer segment. HPI, which has over 75 percent marketshare in the high-end Indian printer segment and over 90 percent marketshare in the low-end printer segment, is anticipating a loss of marketshare due to the entry of Xerox and Canon. The company has planned aggressive marketing strategies like bundling PCs and printers at economical prices for consumers, retail initiatives and printer solutions for corporates. (khr)
