The UK hair care market increased 14.6% from 1992 to 736 million pounds sterling in 1996. The market leader is hairspray, with 53.5% of the total market share valued at 121 million pounds sterling in 1996. Styling products suffered from a change in hair style requirements and fell in value from 252 million pounds sterling in 1992 to 226 million pounds sterling in 1996, a fall of 10.3%. The growing demand for products that keep hair healthy has led to an increase in the value of the salon-based conditioning shampoos, by 28.6% from 1992 to 391 million pounds sterling.
