Article Abstract:
One of the Republican candidates for the election to the House of Representatives from Louisiana is David Duke, who has been involved in politics in Louisiana for some years. He won a state House seat in 1989, and came closer to winning the governorship than had been anticipated. He still has a small group of loyal supporters, but his popularity has declined. When he stood for the US Senate in 1996, he gained only 9% of the vote. His rival candidates are mainly wealthy, educated, white men, but one woman, who has the unusual name of Monica Monica, has also begun campaigning.
