Heineken may be near accord to buy Cruzcampo
Article Abstract:
Spain's Cruzcampo SA has been targeted for acquisition by Amsterdam, Netherlands-based brewery giant Heineken NV. Industry analysts, which have said that the acquisition bid is valued at over $500 million, speculate that Heineken is attempting to consolidate its position in Spain. Cruzcampo, the third largest brewery in Spain ahead of Mahou SA, had a 24% market share in Spain in 1998. Heineken is expected to cut costs in marketing and distribution as it attempts to raise its Spanish brewery profits.
