Article Abstract:
Do-it-yourself (DIY) sales in Britain have fallen by 1% between 1990 and 1995, and are expected to reduce by 5% between 1996 and 2000. Sluggish housing market sales and a lower advertising expenditure have had a direct impact on DIY sales. Paint advertisements make up nearly half of the advertising expenditure for the industry, of which Dulux paint is the leading product. Estimated DIY sales for 1996 equal 1.32 billion pounds sterling.

Article Abstract:
There is strong demand for market research services in the UK in the late 1990s despite bad publicity at the beginning of the decade. In 1998 revenue in the sector was 915 million pounds sterling, and an increase of 12% is anticipated for 1999. Richard Silman, managing director of BMRB International, a subsidiary of WPP, believes that market research has to be used as a tool for future policy.
