Hong Kong's market is still seen as tops
Article Abstract:
Investors would do well to keep Hong Kong stocks over-represented in their portfolios, as the colony's Hang Seng Index reached another record high in Nov. 1996. The index closed at 13,167.16 on Nov. 20, rising by an impressive 31% for the year and is forecast to keep trekking an upward slope. Manu Bhaskaran of Crosby Securities predicts that the index could breach the 14,000-mark until 1997, fueled by a robust Chinese economy boasting of liquidity. The short-term outlook for Hong Kong is favorable, although longer-term prospects are uncertain owing to its return to Chinese rule in 1997.

Asian-bond watchers foresee further gains this year
Article Abstract:
Bond experts believe that the Asian bond market still has room to grow in 1997 after showing a remarkable performance in 1996. Analysts believe that the tightening of high-yielding US bonds would propel more investors to turn to Asian bonds. Improvements in sovereign ratings for long-term debt are also expected to lure investors to Asia. Analysts say the Philippines and China offer the biggest opportunities in 1997.
