Hopes and fears in Colombia

Colombia's economy and society have been affected by conflict between te government, paramilitary groups and guerrillas, and drugs and kidnappings have provided funds for the conflict to continue. Colombian president. Andres Pastrana, is seeking to achieve peace, and talks have started with the FARC guerrilla group. Talks should also include the paramilitaries and ELN, another guerrilla group. The government also has to show its strength to guerrillas, and show them that they can take part in democracy.
