A new approach
Article Abstract:
China's four major state banks are changing. They are becoming more commercially orientated and less inclined to follow state requests to hand out money where there is little hope of return. The banks' leaders are regaining control over the branches which are motivated by local connections, and some are beginning to present themselves more like bankers than bureaucrats. Chinese banks are also entering the international arena. Some analysts believe that China will become a major capital-exporting country with the banks playing an intermediary role.
