How a 'very difficult' manager is igniting Hong Kong's Atlas
Article Abstract:
Albert J. Miller, chairman of the Hong Kong-based Atlas Industries Ltd., an electronics and computer components manufacturer, enjoys being involved with the day-to-day operations of the company, which many analysts claim is the reason for the company's resurgence since he took over. Atlas Industries has been transformed from a run-of-the-mill producer to a leading high-tech firm whose stock is one of the most favored trading on the Hong Kong market. The company expects its profits for the fiscal year ending March 30, 1984 to be double the $4.1 million earned in fiscal 1983, and analysts expect its fiscal 1985 sales to triple to $143 million, with profits reaching $19 million. How Miller was able to achieve this remarkable growth rate and his plans for the future are described.

The Norwegian assault on Europe's minicomputer markets
Article Abstract:
Rolf Skaar, president of Norsk Data A-S, a Norwegian minicomputer manufacturer, is preparing the company for entry into the European minicomputer market, where it will compete against Digital Equipment Corp., Prime Computer, Tandem and Data General. Skaar claims that Norsk Data is in a better position to compete for the European office automation and data processing markets than other manufacturers on the continent due to its strong foundation, quality products and excellent track record. While the company's earnings of $115 million in 1983 do not put it in the same league as the industry's major players, European analysts are confident that Norsk Data will be successful, due in large part to the leadership of Skaar.
