FOODGRAINS OUTPUT DOWN BY 4 MT IN 1997-98
Article Abstract:
India is expected to report a 4 million tonnes fall in foodgrain production during 1997-98. The fall is anticipated due to low pulses and coarse cereals production. During the period, production of pulses was around 13 million tonnes (14 million tonnes in 1996-97). Coarse cereal production was around 31.2 million tonnes. The pulses and cereals production was affected by delayed monsoon in different parts of India and by rainfall, which was slightly above normal. (ag)
