ITA SOAR OVER TOBACCO BOARD's MOVE TO SET LOWER OUTPUT TARGET
Article Abstract:
The Indian Tobacco Association (ITA) and exporters of Andhra Pradesh are having row with Tobacco Board (TB) for fixing a lower production target of flue cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco for 1998-99. ITA has sent its appeal to Union Minister of Commerce to look into the matter. The TB has fixed the target output at 99.82 million kilograms (kg). According to ITA, the board's target figures are illogical as tobacco exporters' requirement for 1998-99 is at 68 million kg and domestic manufacturers requirement at 62 million kg. Hence the actual required tobacco production will be 130 million kg. (gs) >EN
