In blow to foreign views, Vietnam plans to tighten state controls to spur growth
Article Abstract:
The Vietnamese Communist Party has issued a report detailing its long-term economic policies. The report emphasized that market-oriented reforms must be combined with tighter state controls along socialist lines, and predicted that government firms and cooperatives will account for 60% of GNP by the year 2020. The report also discouraged efforts to destabilize the government, rejected political pluralism and criticized backsliding among party members.
