India's plant tissue-culture industry is flourishing. This industry uses biotechnological methods to produce commercially valuable plants in much larger numbers than can be done by conventional methods such as grafting. India's industry can yield approximately 50 million plants annually, or 10% of world production. Harrison Malayalam, a company that operates a laboratory in Hosur 35 kilometers south of Bangalore, is an industry leader with an output of about 3.5 million plants a year.

Article Abstract:
Titan, a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Tata, has grown under Managing Dir Xerxes Desai. Founded in 1985, Titan set itself apart from its main competitor, HMT, by using quartz technology and emphasising style. This approach helped Titan sell 2.6 million watches in 1992-93 at a value of $61 million. Titan now controls 29% of India's market. Desai hopes to make Titan a full-range manufacturer and a competitor in the world market.
