HUD's intrusive actions
Article Abstract:
Presidential candidate Bob Dole believes that the principal initiatives of the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are counterproductive. He feels that these programs do not even pretend to help the poor and instead only hurt them. Instead of alleviating poverty, they have actually worsened it. What the poor really need are housing vouchers, which would enable them to choose where they live. Moreover, the presidential aspirant argues that the Federal Housing Authority should be privatized and homelessness assistance should be delegated to the Dept. of Health and Human Services instead of the HUD. In addition, the Dept. of Justice should handle the enforcement of the fair housing laws. Under the Dole Administration, the HUD will not have an opportunity to use intimidating and intrusive actions.

India's toothbrush war
Article Abstract:
UK pharmaceutical concern SmithKline Beecham did not go to the trouble of registering its Aquafresh zigzag flexible toothbrush handle design in India until 1993, mainly because it did not regard the market as being particularly significant. However, it is now facing competition from at least four other companies producing a similar toothbrush design, and has taken legal action against Hindustan Lever, the Indian subsidiary of Unilever. Until recently, international companies did not respond when Indian companies copied their designs as the market was small and legal action was pointless.
