Indonesia, with eye on global offering, picks four to operate phone concessions
Article Abstract:
The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications has chosen four consortia that will spearhead the country's telecommunications infrastructure improvement. Although the consortia have yet to sign agreements with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, they are expected to install 1.6 million telephone lines by 1999 and manage telephone systems in West Java, Central Java, Sumatra and Kalimantan. A discussion of the different companies involved in the four consortia is presented.

Bumpy road to the listing of Indonesia's Telkom offers guidance for future Asian privatizations
Article Abstract:
Asian governments have lessons to learn from the privatization of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom). Telkom's transfer to private hands should teach governments to lower their expectations and be more aware of the workings of global markets. As a result of the Telkom experience, fund managers believe Asian governments will reduce the size of infrastructure offerings and share issuers will adjust prices slightly downward.

Disputes between Telekom Malaysia, Indonesian partners threaten alliance
Article Abstract:
The alliance for Indonesia's telephone-services contracts between Telekom Malaysia Bhd. and its Indonesian partners is threatened by disputes. There has been differences in the management of the Kalimantan project. Telekom Malaysia may withdraw from the consortium. Indonesian executive Tanri Abeng of the Daya Mitra consortium has gone to Kuala Lumpur to mediate in the dispute.
