Innovation is a condition of Eta's trade success
Article Abstract:
Eta (Hlinsko, Czech Republic), electrical appliance manufacturer, will invest over 140 mil Kc in innovations in 1998. About one third of the sum is represented by costs on technical solution and research and the rest by costs on the technical preparation and support of production. Eta's investments in innovations amounted to 122 mil Kc in 1997, 4.5% of its turnover. The firm's investments in innovations totalled 73 mil Kc in 1995. The company's production programme includes 40 kinds of products in 197 types and 175 variants. The majority of the firm's production is a result of Eta's own development and construction. The firm has 3,000 employees. Eta has four production plants and 8 subsidiaries, mainly trade companies. Four of them are firms abroad with the participation of foreign capital.

Trade with Israel

Czech Republic: According to Czech statistics, the Czech Republic exported goods worth 33.9 mil USD to Israel and imported goods worth 47 mil USD from Israel in 1997. According to Israeli statistics, Czech exports to Israel generated 30.7 mil ISD and Czech imports from Israel 44.1 mil ISD in 1997. Nearly one third of Czech exports to Israel is represented by motor vehicles. More than 55% of Czech imports from Israel are represented by telecommunication, electrotechnical, office equipment and data processing products. The mutual trade turnover with Israel was zero in 1990.

NH-Trans (Ostrava, Czech Republic), forwarding firm, expects its turnover to decrease by 30% in 1999 compared to 3.3 bil Kc in 1998. The firm's goods transport volume will decrease by 30% in 1999 compared to 10 mil t in 1998. The main reasons for the drop are strong recession in metallurgy and the war in the former Yugoslavia. The firm will ensure the transport of a giant spruce from the Czech Republic to the Vatican. The spruce is a present of the Czech Republic for the Vatican and will be lighted up on St. Peter square on 18 December 1999.
