Investors turn more bullish on Japan as Wall Street's prospects look limited
Article Abstract:
A growing number of investors are taking another look at the Japanese market amid the increasing prospect of another hike in US interest rates. Analysts attribute this trend to Japan's low interest rates and the fact that the Japanese economy is poised for a strong recovery from its long recession. Foreign investors bought some $4.79 billion worth of Japanese stocks in the first week of Mar. 1996, the largest weekly total seen since 1994.

Survey shows improvement in Japan business outlook
Article Abstract:
The Bank of Japan has announced that the country's economy is on the rise although small businesses and the nonmanufacturing sector will still be saddled by inefficiency. The improved picture is due to the stabilization of the rate of the yen to the dollar. Nonetheless, Japanese businessmen are still wary of the economic climate, what with their big inventories, although they believe that the worst is over.

Recovery and cost-cutting moves spur interest in some Japan retailing stocks
Article Abstract:
Japanese department stores have become more profitable after embarking on cost-cutting measures in 1995. These trends have encouraged investors to buy retail stocks on companies such as Daimaru and Isetan. Daimaru reports that it reduced staff by more than 1000 and recorded a 13.1% rise in profits. Centralized purchasing has also aided profitability in other stores.
