Williams spent 17 years on death row in Illinois for a double murder he did not commit. He was recently released after three other men confessed to the crimes. Williams' case demonstrates that the criminal justice system may be condemning too many convicts to execution too quickly.

Robert Alton Harris is very close to becoming the first person executed in the state of California in the last 25 years. Only clemency from Gov Pete Wilson, a strident death penalty advocate, can prevent the execution. 324 others are on death row in California.
