Locally acquired neurocysticercosis
Article Abstract:
Three patients were diagnosed with neurocysticercosis between October 1989 and November 1991. Neurocysticercosis is a infection of the central nervous system by a pork tapeworm that causes seizures, accumulation of fluid in the brain and other neurological complications. It is prevalent in developing countries, and the number of cases in the US has increased since the 1980s. Many of the individuals in the US with neurocysticercosis are immigrants from developing countries with a high incidence of neurocysticercosis. None of the three patients diagnosed with neurocysticercosis had traveled outside the US, but all had contact with immigrants from other countries. Individuals who have been exposed to neurocysticercosis patients should be tested for the disease. Most individuals who have neurocysticercosis are diagnosed by detection of brain lesions with CAT and MRI imaging. The diagnosis can be confirmed with a blood test. Neurocysticercosis can be successfully treated with drugs.

The eminence of excess: Thierry Despont's clients include Bill Gates, Mickey Drexler, Conrad Black and other titans of the new gilded age; so who cares if rival architects find his work embarrassing?
Article Abstract:
Architect Thierry Despont is known not for a particular style but for his willingness to design and build mansions that cater to the egos of their owners. Their excessive sizes, ranging from 20,000 to 60,000 square feet, and price tags that start at $20 million and soar to $50 million, are perfect for those business entrepreneurs who want to impress everyone with their wealth and power. Despont is a master of architectural narcissism.
