MAURITIUS BEATS US TO EMERGE AS INDIA'S NO 1 FDI PARTNER
Article Abstract:
Mauritius has emerged as India's largest foreign direct investment (FDI) partner replacing the US. Several multinationals prefer to route their capital through Mauritius rather than directly invest in India. The double taxation agreement between India and Mauritius makes this route attractive. In 1998, 36.17 percent of FDI investment commitments came from Mauritius (27.78 percent in 1997) while 27.18 percent came from the US (36.15 percent). (nr)
