Shooting pool has become the latest craze among young Korean women. Long considered a taboo for Korean women, the sport has been embraced by a growing number of young women. The popularity of the sport has likewise resulted in the proliferation of modern pool halls. Unlike traditional pool halls which have long been regarded as exclusively male destinations and hotbeds of gangs, the modern halls feature hardwood floors, phones on every sidetable and TV screens showing music videos.

Wave of Korean ads tout new hangover remedies

Drinking is an accepted aspect of the Korean business culture and it is not surprising that many executives awaken to raging hangovers in the morning. To help them deal with the hangover problem, Korean manufacturers offer several concoctions formulated to alleviate the headaches and upset stomachs which result from all-night drinking binges. The most popular product by far is Cheil Foods and Chemical Co.'s Condition, which has captured 75% of the hangover remedy market.

Korean retailers target thrifty young wives

Korean retailers have started to woo trendy yet thrifty young homemakers dubbed 'Missy.' Retailers view the Missy class of housewives in their mid-20s to -30s as more likely to invest in themselves than the older generation of women. Advertisers likewise are eager to promote products ranging from detergents to cosmetics to these hip, married masses. Korean publishers have also churned out new or revamped magazines catering to the Missy crowd.
